Treat Balham Fertility Clinic offers tailored treatments, whether you are preparing for pregnancy, experiencing fertility issues or undergoing assisted conception. A healthy couple will ordinarily take anything from 6 to 18 months to fall pregnant. Improving your health naturally will enhance your ability to conceive. Fertility problems may affect 1 in 3 couples. These can be explained or unexplained.
Explained Infertility
There are often medical reasons why a couple may struggle to conceive. For women this may be due to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), ovulatory failure, tubal damage and Endometriosis. Male problems also account for 26% of infertility and this is often due to problems with sperm count and motility.
Unexplained Infertility
The most common cause of infertility is 'unexplained', which means that following thorough medical investigations, doctors cannot find any specific or identifiable medical problem at the root. This is where a natural approach can be very effective.
If a couple is finding it hard to become pregnant, there is clearly something causing the problem. Being told that it can’t be explained is very frustrating and the answer may lie outside of a labelled medical problem. It could be related to lifestyle, nutritional deficiencies and emotional concerns. There are often multiple elements at play which are contributing to the problem and this requires a holistic approach to create the ideal conditions for a pregnancy to occur.
At Treat Balham Fertility Clinic we enhance your ability to conceive by correcting deficiencies and rebalancing your body to give you the best possible chance of conception. We work together as a multi disciplinary team using nutrition, Chinese medicine and acupuncture. Where required we also use emotional and structural therapies to support each couple.
Natural treatment programmes are often extensive and will always be tailored to suit individual needs. It takes 3 months to change egg quality and enhance sperm cells so we recommend a pre conception period of at least 3 months to give you the best possible results.
Nutrition can work to support you during IVF, IUI or ICSI to prepare your body for the cycle and increase your chance of success.
Nutrition Fertility Programme
You and your partner will each have a initial consultation, and we will design a personal plan to enhance your fertility using nutrition and supplements. We may also refer you to a specialist for herbs and acupuncture. You may be required to take some tests to measure hormone, mineral and heavy metal levels. In some cases we refer you to an Osteopath or therapist if we feel there may be structural or emotional factors blocking your fertility.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) encompasses acupuncture treatment and herbal supplementation. The aim of the treatment is to regulate the menstrual cycle and support ovulation or implantation. It is particularly useful for couples who have been trying for some time without the desired results. The success rate in the case of unexplained fertility is 76% between 3-6 months of treatment. When there are underlying problems, such as Endometriosis, treatment tends to take longer. TCM can also be used to enhance sperm quality with effective results within around 3 months of treatment.
Nutritional Therapy
Whether you are just preparing to try for a baby or have been trying without success for some time, following a healthy diet is crucial. Nutrition can also help correct hormonal imbalances and nutrient deficiencies which may contribute to poor fertility in men and women. The University of Surrey found that couples who made changes to their diet and lifestyle and took supplements increased their chance of conception with an 80% success rate. The aim is to create an optimal internal environment for an egg to be fertilised and implanted into the uterus and then to ensure it gets the ideal supply of nutrients to develop and grow.
