3rd trimester

The third trimester, weeks 28 to 38. This time is about preparing for birth and becoming a mother. You need to prepare yourself both emotionally and physcially. You need to take plenty of rest which can be hard if you are still working so making the right choices about what you eat will be very important at this time.

During this time you will need plenty of iron and vitmain c as your blood volume is increasing. Your body will be laying down fat for milk production and eating the right kind of fats will be essential. As the baby's brain cells are developing faster than ever it will take more calories and essential fats from you. Increasing oily fish, nuts and seeds in your diet is the best solution.

You may experience sleeplessness, skin problems, anxiety, swelling and joint pain, your nutritional therapist will able to help reduce some of these side effects.

The second trimester, weeks 13 to 27. This should be the best time in your pregnancy. Women often are said to be blooming at this stage with increased energy, shiny hair and healthy skin. If you have been following a good nutrition plan this is very likely to be the case for you if not then some simple adjustments may make all the difference.

During this phase you may experience constipation, heartburn and increased pressure on your bladder. Asthe baby begins to develop rapdily and gain fat you will see a noticable difference in your bump and may see some stretch marks. These can be avoided but are hard to repair. Daily use of an oil like Bio Oil is very effective in preventing any stretch marks.

A nutritional therapist will review your diet and supplement plans and ensure that you are optimising health for both you and your baby.

The first trimester is about adjusting your body and mind to the fact that you are soon to become a mother. This period can be a very anxious time, so Mum and Me aim to give you support and information that help you feel more in control and that you are doing the best for yourself and your baby. During this period what you eat is very important, as the foetus is developing it will take essential nutrients from you so you must ensure that you have surpless supply so that you don't feel depleated.

Morning Sickness is a common condition during this phase of pregnancy. Most women will suffer from sickness, it is a condition characterised by nausea and vomiting during early pregnancy (however not necessarily in the morning!).

Make sure you get plenty of rest and only do moderate exercise, now is not the time to embark on any new regimes!
